Uber, with the help of Meals on Wheels, launched Step up to the Plate. This fundraising effort’s hope was to support seniors struggling with hunger and isolation by raising money for Meals on Wheels. This represented a key part of Uber’s ongoing program to help Meals on Wheels recruit the next generation of volunteers. The goal of the film was to highlight the beauty in community, art and connection.
Step Up to the Plate began by connecting 3 artists with 3 seniors by way of Uber over the holidays. The artists sat down and heard Bruce’s, Freda’s, and John’s favorite memories over lunch. 3 weeks later, the artists then surprised them by bringing their stories to life through art.
The artwork was featured on a pair of limited-edition commemorative plates to raise funds for Meals on Wheels.
